Membros Integrados
I
am a Visiting Senior Fellow in European Political Economy at the European
Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). I am
also a regular Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Public
Administration in Lisbon (where I coordinate the area of European Integration
and Internationalization) and Associate Professor at UFP, Porto. My current
teaching activities (UK and Portugal) include “European Integration and
Internationalization” and “European Political Economy”. My
main research interests concern European integration and economic governance
(internal market, competition policy, the Lisbon and Europe 2020 strategies, EU
environmental, energy and climate policies); European and national strategies
on sustainability and competitiveness; European economic integration and
migration policies (i.e. Chinese business communities and Chinese FDI); and,
more recently, also the optimum size of the EU club. My
books cover issues ranging from industrial organization/ innovation policy, EU
competition policy, competitiveness factors, regional competitiveness/EU
cohesion, to migration (Chinese migration and FDI) from a single market
perspective. I have published articles on the question of sustainable growth
(Intereconomics, 2013), EMU and sustainability (JEI, 2015), the Political
Economy of Brexit (Intereconomics, 2016) and Economic Reform under Europe 2020
(PPPJ, forthcoming). I have also contributed with chapters on the Lisbon
Strategy, Sustainability and Economic Governance, and the Single Market and the
Lisbon and Europe 2020 Strategies, respectively, to the handbooks on European
Integration by Oxford University Press (2012), Palgrave (2013) and Routledge
(2015). More recently, I have written on Chinese Migration and FDI for Routledge
(2016), EMU and Structural Reform for Palgrave (2016), Growth and Industrial
Strategy for the IPPR ‘Future of Britain in Europe’ essay collection, and on
EMU as a Sustainable Currency Area (presented at the EUI in Florence in June
2016) for Springer Verlag 2017. In
recent times I have been working together with Francisco Torres and other
colleagues on a broader concept of sustainability (see JEI article), on
economic reform, on the euro crisis, on EU environmental policy and on the
‘optimal size’ of a Union (the EU and EMU). I have presented my work at the
LSE, the EUI in Florence, King’s College London and at the University of
Trento. Recent
refereeing includes: Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of Economic and
Social Geography, Political Studies, Portuguese Journal of Political Science
and International Relations; LEQS – LSE Paper Series; McGraw-Hill.
