José Palmeira is a Professor at the Department of International Relations and Public Administration, of the School of Economics and Management of University of Minho. He is a member of the board of the European Studies Section of the Portuguese Association of Political Science (APCP). He has served, among others, as chairman of the Council of Economic, Business and Political Science Courses and as director of the Political Science and International Relations Section, as well as directing bachelors and masters degrees in International Relations and Political Science. He was also director of the Political Science and International Relations Research Center (NICPRI) and its journal (at the time named Perspectivas - Portuguese Journal of Political Science), as well as the official representative of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR).
Currently, Professor José Palmeira is an Editor of Perspectivas - Journal of Political Science.
The main focus of José Palmeira’s research is in the domain of geopolitics affecting the Atlantic and Lusophone areas, with particular attention to the European Union and Portugal. Professor José Palmeira articulates this aspect of international relations with comparative policies in the area of political science, given the connection between a nature of the actors' political systems and their behavior without an international system.
