Sessão Aberta e Workshop | Global Civics: Necessary? Feasible? e Imperative to listen well and disagree better
O CICP organiza, no
We have the simultaneous traits of being the luckiest
generation in human history, and facing the toughest challenge. We are the
luckiest generation because we lead longer, healthier, more capable, and more
peaceful lives than any other generation before us. Yet, we are also faced with
the daunting task of sharing the authorship of our lives with billions, with
whom we share a planet and a deeply interdependent future, but not our
countries or our histories. How we navigate this double challenge will define
our generation. In this session, we will unpack these dynamics and their
consequences, and hopefully identify reservoirs of decency and civic knowhow,
which are often under-recognized in our cluttered daily routines.
to listen well and disagree better"
We have a political culture, which prizes rhetoric and
elocution. Yet, many wise voices have called attention to listening well as the
under-celebrated but vital virtue. Others have called a wholesome conversation
as the most critical human activity. At this session, we will consider
increasing polarization and anomie in many parts of the world, and attempt to
ascertain whether we can engage each other better than we have done so far.Disagreement is inevitable, but do we need to
disagree as miserably as we do, or can we disagree better?
